    Benefit of converting an m44 to obd1?

    I am trying to replace the engine in my 318is but cost is going to be a problem. I know an M50 swap is fairly easy but the engines are more expensive than their 4 banger counterparts. Is there any benefit to getting an m44 and converting it to obd1? Would that be difficult? Or should I just go with an m42?

        I've looked everywhere and every one in that price range I have seen has been beat or has high miles...which I dont want. Where are these cheap m50s so I can buy one.

          You just have to be patient and wait for it...from another member near your area. It seems that once you start looking for something is when it gets harder to get though...GL

            m42 internals>m44 internals in case you didn't know. Buttchug pretty much nailed it, although if you sourced an e36 m42 you'd have the benefits of a serpentine belt + knock sensor AND forged rods/crank.

              i thought e30 m42, and e36 m42, had forged internals, and m44 were cast?
              or did i get false info?

                Thats what I'm sayin'.:) An e36 m42 would be a better choice than an e36 m44 imo.
