Not sure why you'd want to replace the m42 forged internals with m44 cast ones.
I'd replace the crank thrust bearing with the 360˚ m50 piece, and if you've got the dough replacing OE cast pistons with some forged ones would be a good upgrade.

m44 block, or just take the whole rotating assembly and dump it in the m42.

Regarding the bottom end only, any cost-effective upgrades from stock for something that will be used as daily driver? (ie. guides? rings? etc)
