      holy fuck that's insane....makes me want to invest in a flywheel shield....

      Also, there are two different sizes of pilot bearings for M42's-a 12mm and a 15mm iirc. Make sure you have the right one.

      If you can't get the bearing out, I shoved a bunch of grease in behind the bearing and used a rod about the ID of the bearing and tapped the bearing with the hammer to put pressure on the grease, which popped the pilot bearing right out. Messy, but easy and cheap.

        I used wet newspaper^ just kept jamming it in there then used a metal dowel as stated above and kept packing and packing the paper in and the bearing popped out. then I used a pick to pull all the wet newspaper
