Timing chain replacement time. What else while I'm at it?

As this title states I am about to replace the timing chain/tensioner so I figured I could do a bit more cleaning up down there while I'm at it. The engine has ~205k if that helps place it on the shit-ta-fail timeline.

Well, you must have a 318 with a chain. When I have the cam belt changed on the 325, I always do the water pump & thermostat.

Well if you are going to open the case replace all the guides and the chain, if the cam sprokets are worn replace them as well and if you go that far replace the crank shaft sproket just because.

Basically replace anything that is worn. Should be pretty obviously once you tear into it.

Check your cam gears (they should not be sharp) and your rails & guides etc. Check your idler gear too if you have one. Hell, take off the gear and check the casting behind it. The casting on mine just opened up and the gear fell off.

If your main timing guide (long one on the right) is original, replace it. The old ones are stamped steel with a plastic insert. The plastic falls away from the metal eventually.
