What on earth would prompt you to want to do a silly thing like that?

You don't say what engine you have but, seriously, just use OEM tensioner. And don't replace just the tensioner, a new belt is cheap insurance.

^Your head is up your ass.

OP this subject has been covered quite a bit in the r3v m42 subforum. A little searching and you'll find the info you need. You should consider pulling your valve cover and having a look at your cam gears and guides.

The updated tensioner piston is #17 in the diagram below, BMW p.n. 11311743187

Chain rattle at start up. The car will sound sort of like a diesel.

The M42 tensioner has been updated to the M44 tensioner.

Depending on mileage, you might need to replace the water pump and the chain guides.

I replaced all the guides, the chain, the sprockets, tensioner etc. on mine at 155k due to the chain rattle mentioned above.

But you might not need to go the whole nine yards. See if the new tensioner clears up the noise.

what the fuck, first look at what subforum your trying to not help in, this is the m42 section and we dont use lame ass belts for our engines.
