Yup. That's why I ran around with all that nonsense until about the time I finished college and was no longer broke as fuck. Then I bought proper suspension parts and installed them. All the slightly-older guys that had done exactly that told me it would happen too lol.

My transition to the old-side was complete at that time. (read this in your head using Emperor Palpatine's voice)

Just out of curiosity, are you 18-19 years old? This isn't intended as an insult or anything, just a guess based on the profile pic. I was EXACTLY the same way at that age, and by 24 had ridded myself of almost all of the "performance" suspension stuff. Older guys told me the exact same stuff lol, but the only way to actually learn is to go through it. How else WOULD the older guys know?!

In all honesty, you guys are most likely right. For now I'm gonna run them and see how i like them. I won't put poly engine mounts on, but I'm definitely going with solid bushings, especially if I get a chance to experience them first hand in another person's car.

I also just checked the price of e28 mounts...$45 (presumably each?) on blunttech. Holy shit that's not exactly what I would consider cheap as hell.

I think If you run solid trans mounts you'll drive for 30 seconds and regret it.

That's likely true. You're running THR CAB's though...what other suspension bushings have you gone with?

The solid CABs will no doubt produce a harsh ride, but at least they won't scream like a bat out of hell. I got powerflex rear subframe/trailing arm bushings. Solid sway bar links and poly sway bushings.

It all depends on your comfort level. And what you do with your car..every day driver? Stick to poly stuff and don't go crazy. Every day driver and occasional track car? Do as much as you can tolerate (or in some cases...enjoy)

I run decently stiff coil overs, larger sways, solid motor mounts, stiff poly mounts everywhere else, tree house CABS, strut bars, roll bar, aluminum flywheel and stg 2 clutch (soon turbo and stg 3) and honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. Granted I have another car for when I actually need to fit people/things but in terms of ride I absolutely love it.

Am I happy sitting in traffic messing with an annoying clutch and no A/C...I'd be lying if I told you I was. But the time spent driving is greater than that spent in traffic so I don't mind too much.


Think of it this way...if the car is a DD will solid engine and transmission mounts make it any better/faster? No they won't get you from you house to the store any quicker or help you beat the ricer who wants to show you up with his 18 second civic with a coffee can for a muffler or cut springs for a suspension. They will cause a lot of unwanted noise and vibration for what? Great if your gf wants to use your vibrating seats to get off too; while the noise from the solid trans mounts masks her moans for how wonderful her new boyfriend "Recaro" (which she will inherently say while rolling the "R" in Recaro so it sounds more exotic) can satisfy her in ways you can't. Do you want that to happen? ... stick with better than stock but don't go overboard

If you track the car than you probably already have such an uncomfortable ride (to everyone else at least) filled with noise and so many other things that she will be too pissed at you to even realise anything else.

You should run stock motor mounts or at least the rock-auto m42 mounts. $60e.a.

Im speaking from experience I ordered from Silence, a member who sells poly mounts, and I couldn't take the vibration. I went back to 20y.o. m42 mounts until one ripped. Im now on rock-auto mounts and I immediately feel a huge difference in idle, throttle response, and overall comfort. On another note I can't say that my cracked subframe was from normal driving or from using the solid mounts but I ended up needing to weld one side up for safety. Im sure you really want to run the solid mounts which I also think would be fine, its all personal preference.

BTW Thanks to bmwman91 for mentioning to go stock motor mounts in previous threads.

Oh man, the poly RTABs I had squeaked like hell. I was sooooo glad to be rid of them.

Same experience here, although I found the difference to be between E28 ones & the M42 stockers. Blown mounts cause lousy throttle response & vibration. New ones are amazing!

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll probably go with stock rubber tranny mounts, e28 (any difference/benefit between M5 and 535i, or will M5 not just work?), and silence's bushings all around (CABs, subframe, diff, and TAB's when he comes out with them). Where do you guys get solid sway bar end links, and do you think it'll make a significant difference? I know that the biggest thing i'll need to do is fork over the cash for an X-brace since it's a vert, so I'll likely keep the 195k end links until I do that.

The M5 mounts don't fit. The only ones that do are the ones in the link I provided.

What do you mean by "solid sway bar end links? I haven't seen any for the stock bars, not that I have looked either, but the Suspension Techniques ones I bought have solid/adjustable rear links. I still use the rubber fronts because the ride would be intolerable without them, and probably break the subframe.

I have UUC poly trans mounts that I havent installed yet. I was planning on using them with my m30 swap, but I recently found out that they wont work with my getrag 265. I have thought about possibly installing them, and I have also thought about selling them. Not sure what I want to do with them. This thread is making me want to pop them in and give it a test drive though

Yea I figured it wouldn't take much to put them in. Just got the car back home from painting it. So when I get some time I will probably through them in there. Its not like ill notice much more in cabin noise with the exhaust hitting the floor and a bad csb
