    Testing the TPS

Noob to the forums here so forgive me if this is a completely noob question.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of a funky start up/idle problem. I'm trying to test the TPS by following the Bentley manual. I get the correct resistance between pins 1 &3 and pins 1&2, however I can't seem to get the 5v reading.

With the ignition on and the positive lead of the multimeter in the TPS and the ground lead on a ground source I get no voltage...not even a jump. Same happens if I have the positive lead in the TPS harness.

Am I doing this completely wrong? Or should I look at swapping out a TPS?

    Thanks

the car will run without it. I had always heard you do pins 1 and 3 on a 2000ohm setting, and manually move the Throttle body, and should go up to 800ish if I remember correctly.

read my post....the 5v is on the harness that connects to the TPS, not on the TPS itself.

positive probe to pin 1 of TPS harness, negative to ground on car with ignition on. I'll give that a shot....I'll give it a shot.
