m42 knocking

my m42 is making a weird knocking noise that sounds like its coming from the valve cover, i have rebuilt the timing case almost a year ago, and it ran perfectly fine,
sounds sort of like this but you can't hear it at idle

There is an oil pick up tube ( don't know the technical name) inside the oil pan that can come lose on the M42. Happened to my buddy's. Will knock because engine is starving for oil. Take your oil pan off and see if everything is as it should be. On his, the bracket that holds the tube, or the tube itself was in peices at the bottom of the oil pan. Got it fixed up and it ran perfect. Pretty easy if that is it.

Of course it could always be the chain system. When you redid the system did you use the updated DS long chain guide? If so people often forget to change the upper bolt and this can cause the bolt to come loose, which could of course be stuck somewhere and grinding on the chain. However, the video will give us a chance to really diagnose the issue.

To me that sounds like valve/hydraulic lifter ticking. It could also be a rod bearing, but it's not so much a knock like most damaged rod bearing sound.

The lifter issue can be due to oil starvation or wear. Generally from oil starvation. This may be worth reading.

yes i did change that bolt to a longer one that's supposed to go with the new guide, i will get the video as soon as possible, just been really busy with work.

Could be many things you mentioned you replaced the timing case, did you replace the oil pump? from the video it sounds like its the entire lifers clattering. I think its lack of pressure not really timing chain related

You will have to remove the entire case again and depending on preference the head aswell. Though if you replaced the entire timing case you would have had to remove the oil pump and it its attached to the rear timing case.
