    Camshaft Sensor Pinout?

    Hey guys, I have a 95 318Ti with the M42. Motronic 1.7 DME

My question is, on PIN 16 and PIN 44 on the DME what kinda readings should I bee getting?

When I remove the crank sensor from the conector, and put a test light directly to the conector(car side) with the key on or off I get ground on the yellow(pin 44), nothing on the thin black(pin 16) and ground on the thick black(correct since its wire shield)

My question is, should my PIN 44 (thin yellow wire) be grounded? seeing it is the signal wire?

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

Also, how should I test the DME for a ground in there?

BTW, anyone have a PINOUT diagram with the correct voltage/readings I should be getting at the Camshaft conector?

You should see an AC voltage across 16 and 44 that varies in frequency with engine RPMs as the motor
speed changes, 1 pulse per 2 engine rev.

The voltage is going to vary, too, but it's not the critical part.

A test light's not going to help you much- it's looking at a pretty low- level signal.

You should also see AC voltage across 68 and 69, but at a LOT higher frequency.

Looks like one side is +5, one's ground, but they indicate resistors there, so you may
see something significantly different (ground higher than 0, +5 lower than 5)

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
