    E30 Problems

    Hey everyone,

Im having some e30 problems. In the mornings my car turns on and runs fine. After I turn the car off after a little warm up or drive around the car doesn't want to start. the starts cuts off and does all sorts of wierd things. But when I remove fuse 11 which is the fuel pump I start the car again after a couple of tries the car turns on fine and moments later the car will die unless I put the fuse back in and the car is fine once again.

I think its the fuel regulator but im not sure. I want to start driving me e30 again!!!!!!!

not shure what car you have, but it could be afm or icv or something else.

So you are saying that when you pull the fuse for the fuel pump it still pumps fuel and runs fine until you put the fuse back in which causes it to die?

Perhaps you have a relay that's fused, a really funky "fix" on the pump wiring, or an aftermarket alarm that is bypassing the system. That, or you are pulling the wrong fuse.

I think the car has a surplus of fuel left in the system... and when I take the fuse out it basically cleans out the system. when I pull the fuse the pump isn't on but the car will run for a short period until the fuel runs out... I can drive the car from la crescenta to where ever I want but once I turn the car off it wont want to turn on and the only way I got the car to start was to drain the fuel system by removing the fuse then once it turns on i put the fuse back and the car is fine... Its super strange and through the 3-4 years I've been working on e30's I never ran into a problem like this.

removing a fuse does not drain a fuel system. You have a fuel delivery problem or you have some sort of vapor lock??? check the fuel pressure and make sure the evap system is working properly.

Sounds like your fuel pump is working, but the fpr, or leaking injector (injectors) may be causing the issue.

CK valve in fuel pump will hold pressure on the line for at least 30 minutes.
Leaking injector may be flooding the engine, making for hard start.

Next time you take the car out, don't shut it off with the key, pull the fuel pump fuse, let it die, doing this will release pressure in the rail to the injectors. let it sit for a bit, fuse back in start it up. If it starts normally you have narrowed it down to injectors or FPR.

Tested oldmann's test... I drove my car to work that usually takes about 15-20 mins.
pulled the fuse instead of turning off the car with the key, and the car stayed on for about 30 seconds with hesitation of staying alive. That was about 11a.m, I turned my car on at around 2:30p.m it took about 2-3 tries to start it and it was perfect. I drove from work to mira loma and back home but I was scared to turn off the car.. So the whole way there and back I left the car on.. and When i stopped at home I turned the car off again with the fuse and let it sit for about a minute. The car turned on again after 2-3 tries. I turned the car off again but with the key only, and the car wouldn't turn on until i removed the fuse and cranked it a bit until it turned on the put the fuse back and it was fine.

Time to CK fuel pressure, FPR operation.

If those CK out OK, Then the injectors for leaking.

After you shut off the engine, fuel is getting past the injectors, (way to much pressure being held in the rail, or injector leaks).
