M42 is idling well but has no power.

    Car:
    1991 318is
    5 Speed
    Unknown mileage

    Problem:
The car is very, very weak. It starts and idles fine and can be driven, but only around my neighborhood. It doesn't seem like it wants to cut off, and it will rev, but it has no power. I've put the pedal all the way down in first gear at 3k RPM and it barely moves.

No smoke, no leaks, smooth idle. New Bosch OEM plugs, fresh oil and filter change. New air filter.

I noticed this problem when the car had a clogged cat; figured that was the problem. Dropped the exhaust and hollowed the cat as well as I could. Gets good exhaust flow now, and no clogged cat smell. Drove it with the exhaust open after the cat. Still no power.

Next step was replacing the fuel filter. Did that earlier today. Still no power.

I've checked the throttle cabling and the throttle bodies are opening all the way up, so that isn't it either.

    I'm stumped, any ideas?

But you did get me thinking about it and yeah...turns out I had the #2 and #3 plug wires backwards. So, you win :)

        Runs like crazy now.
