    m42 Cooling Manifold Part #

So, my car developed a leak in the part that connects the coolant pipe to the engine block (manifold)? I had a local shop take a look at it for me to determine exactly what was going on, as I had hardly any time with finals, and they told me I needed part number 11531714738. Putting that into GetBMWParts told me that was the number for the m44 coolant manifold in a 96-99 e36. Same part for both cars? I couldn't find anything confirming that.

Yeah the black water pipe is a fairly common item that craps out. It's the same PN for the M42 and M44.

Make SURE that you spend the extra $5 on the Genuine BMW one. The OE replacement / 3rd party one is notorious for not fitting into the block very well and for premature failure.

11531714738 is the correct part (make sure it comes with the o ring 11531709157) the E36 M44 appears to be 11531743679. In any case buy OE as bmwman said, and if you do the work yourself be sure the pipe sort of clicks in to place in the block as it can appear to be seated and not be so.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys. I did order the O-ring with it as well. Will check for that click.

I think the only important step has been covered. Remove the manifold and related bits, replace water pipe, and reassemble. More info can be found in the various mess under the intake threads.
