91 318is sputtered and died now wont start...
I know whatever it is its most likely something simple and stupid, but before I start diagnosing I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues.
Car in Question: 1991 318is, 24k on motor 210k on car
I recently went through about 5k miles ago and replaced plugs, fuel filter, air filter... bla bla bla main tune up stuff. Wires have about ~15k on them.
Now the issue....
I was driving home from work today on the highway cruising about 80mph, then the car sputtered a little. I barely noticed, but it caught my attention so I look and I have about a 1/4 tank of gas and carry on. Does it again, then again acting like its running out of gas. Well this is odd, I know I have plenty of fuel, as I only have 280 miles on the tank (I can go ~325-350). Well then it sputtered and died like it ran out of gas, so I pulled over tried to crank it... nothing just cranks and doesnt even try to start. Ok, well maybe I DID run out of gas. So I walked to the gas station put 4 gallons in it, get in the car fires right up. Thinking to myself that I'm getting terrible mileage and my gauge is broken I carry on my way. (The car sat for maybe 15 minutes)
I feel the car sputter again about 3 miles down the highway, and it dies again. So I coast about 3 miles to the exit, and let it sit. This time when I try to start it it coughs and sputters like it wants to, just wont. It will for a couple seconds then dies. I has it towed to my buddies shop so we can look at it in the morning.
So as of right now I'm stumped... Any ideas??
