    m42 help please!!!

Yesterday I was checking my fuel pump and thought it was a good idea to see if it was wired incorrectly. I changed the polarity on the fuel pump and tried to crank then blew a fuse. Genius I know. Anyway reversed the wiring and now the started won't do anything. No clicks nothing. I though it could be a dead battery considering I have been using a used battery and draining it on occasion. So I went and bought a brand new battery and still nothing. Checked all my fuses they are all good but not crank. Did I fry my starter or is there something else I should check. By the way I have 12v at the start and battery.

other issues i am having. I have brand new fuel pump and I am only getting 10 psi. I checked by putting a t in between the fuel rail and the fuel line. This is what make me think I have the terminals on the fuel pump backwards. new fuel filter also. no leaks in the lines anything else I can check?

last issue I had to install a new throttle cable because the old one was broken. there was an adjustment screw on the end that I lost. The new cable has some slack to it and the adjustment screw would fix that.

Is your battery under the hood or in the trunk? Are you getting power to everything else (radio, lights)? How many volts are you getting to the c100 connector?

^^sedan and coupe are in the trunk. 'Vert is up front. In the trunk has the 50 amp fusible link. Up front does not. I have 12.5 volts at the battery yet 2.5 volts on the c100. Either the wire across the firewall from battery to c100 is cooked or the c100 is bad. it took me 8 hrs of troubleshooting to get to this point.

Pressure guage in correct line? Pinch off the fuel line between frame rail and guage and activate pump, pressure should jump way up if guage is on the return line.

Are the terminals tight at the battery junction box on the passenger side firewall?

Thats not the correct throttle cable for M42, the TB end should be a crimped fitting.

My battery is in the trunk and the battery is brand new . I tested the voltage on the starter by the positive terminal and a ground not the junction box on the firewall. I will check the junction box voltage soon. As far as the fuel pressure, I get nothing out of the return line. I also deadheaded the intake line and still got less than 10 psi. This was after the fuel filter, I doubt the fuel filter is that clogged but I will test before the filter, before I order the walbro pump and skip another cheap autozone pump. The throttle cable has a crimp on the end that looks like the kind on the end of a bicycle brake line. The problem is that it is too long. The gas pedal is half way to the floor before the throttle body valves even move. Is there any way I could adjust the pedal?

The main issue I have been having with this car is getting it to run. At first it would just crank and crank sounding like it was trying to start but never did. Replacex the cps all other sensors where in spec.I did the mess under the intake mod and the car finally ran, but with a very high Idle, when I finally fixed the idle issue the car would act like it was about to stall then surge. The strangest thing was when I pressed the gas the engine would bog and when I lifted off it would rev up. I found a big crack in the intake boot which is what I guess was the bog surge issue , but that was when my starter stopped working. I am so close to getting this thing running correctly I can feel it.

For the cable being too long, shorten the cable jacket adjuster at the throttle body all the way, pull the extra cable through to get your pedal all the way up, cut the crimped end off, use a crimp on for 16/18 ga. electrical wire to replace the one you cut off.

Leave a little slack between the crimp on and the piece the cable runs through (1/8") Adjust cable to get W.O.T. but not tension the throttle linkage.

I did this when using a throttle cable from an E36 M42. 4rys no issues.

Was there any crap in your fuel tank clogging the inlet screen?

You sure you don't have the throttle cable in the location on the lever that is reserved for the cruise control cable?

Fuel pump is fried only 10psi at the pump. This fuel pump is less that 1 year old and has operated less than 5 hours. Airtex from orielly's is shit! I will try to see if they will honor the warranty. I most likely will just get a walbro pump and retrofit it. My starter has also taken a dump. I got good voltage and the relays checked out but the starter does nothing. I smacked it a few times with a hammer and is worked for a moment then died again. Any recommendations as to where I can get a good NEW starter without selling an arm or leg?

Airtex in General is crap. Everything literally only lasts somewhere around a year. Lol maybe more, maybe less.

Any one have a world source one starter from ecs tuning ? Pretty cheap for a new starter. I'm reluctant to buy a auto zone etc starter, and rebuilt Bosch starters are $200+! And body have any tips?

You up an buy an autozone starter but it will last a year like everything else. If you're tight on funds that'll work as a semi-temporary fix. Other than that OEM Bosch all day. You could look into rebuilding yours also

Starters and alternators I get from a local parts store because they come with a lifetime warranty.
