Yeah, sounds like it is probably due to aging timing chain components. At the least, pull the valve cover and take a look at the chain, sprockets and whatever you can see of the guide rail.
All the timing components have less than 30k on them. I went ahead and took off the valve cover to see if I could see anything wrong and they all look fine from what I can see.
Hydraulic valve lifters? I read that sometimes running an oil detergent before your next oil change will help clean them out and stop valve train ticking associated with gummy lifters.
