    Heater Core Delete

    I'm trying to clean up my coolant hoses a bit. PO bypassed the heater core since the core and valve were leaking. The bypass is the standard hose route, but it's messy, and I'm wondering if bypassing like shown in the image below (snagged it from M42 Club) would be a good way to clean things up a bit. I have to replace my temp sensor so I figured I'd do this while everything was off.

    Is the procedure for refilling/bleeding the coolant system more difficult with a bypassed heater core? I know that the heat would typically be running while the system is bled.

    Here's the original thread from M42 Club. Looks like everything should work, I'm just wanting to double check on here since the thread is a few years old.

    Maybe try replacing the heater core?

      I thought about it, but I'm actually just looking to tidy up the coolant bypass hoses while I'm in there. Plus, the valve is leaking too. I have aluminum pipes so that part is NLA. I'm not really wanting to buy a used valve, since there's no guarantee that it won't start to leak like the current one.

        The blue line is correct. Or you can cap off the 2 pipes since with the temp control turned to cold the heater valve shuts off the water flow anyway.

          Yeah, you can connect with a hose along the blue line or cap the openings. Bleeding is easier since there is no heater core for the air to get trapped in! Thats why you turn the heat on...to circulate coolant through the heater core and remove the air.
