    Timing tick, but timing components have under 20,000 miles.

    I replaced all the timing components with used ones (less that 20,000 miles) because They saved a lot of money. Everything looked as it should with practically no wear. Had a tick, so I proceeded to buy a new tensioner. Installed the tensioner and I still have a tick when the engine is cold (goes away after warming up). Any ideas on what I can do?
    I have pulled off the valve cover and from what I can see it all still looks great.

    Ticking noises are usually lifters, and if they are old and gummed up, it makes sense that they will tick for a while until the oil can warm up/thin out a little and get into them.

      Try this:



      I added an extra step of changing the oil after a few hundred miles just to get any residual crap out.

      Worked great on my M50. I get 1-2 seconds of tick on start up after sitting over night, but it used to be for several minutes. No tick when it has been ran recently.

        Ok, that makes a lot of sense!
        Does that mix of seafoam, atf, marvel oil not hurt the engine at all? Seems like it wouldn't be very good for it..
