    m42 help

So from when i bought the car and started to get familar with it i started to suspect that there is sand in the motor...yes sand...around the intake mani was sandy enough for me to want to vacuum it. When i changed the spark plugs i.could sware one of the cyclinders had what looked like sand and dirt around the plug. Now it starts and drives fine however does go a tad over the middle coolpnt line but pulls to redline just fine.

Today i decided to flush the coolant and get rid of any air bubbles since i opened the cooling system to do "mess under the intake" i flushed until only water came out . I noticed alot of dirt and grime and white deposits and yes more sand.. i.ignored it then proceeded to refill...heres the kicker i feel like the coolant is.not circulating through the system..i filled overflow tank and it didnt go anywhere when i started the motor................the.motor has 331+ km and its funny.i.noticed as of 4 years ago on the previous owner. They had it registerd at 335k km!? Higher then what the current dash says 4 years later!?

I would like to swap another 4 cylinder what do i need exactly? Can.i just get another m42/m44 and plug and play? I would only need the ecu and engine harness i pressume?

I also see an m50 from a e34 forsale 800$ ecu harness include. Would this be a direct bolt in aside from the smaller brake booster??

Anyone? The bentley manual says about 7litres to fill the system. I put a 4l bottle of coolant and its like it doesnt want to take anymore? My rad is the one with the coolant bottle is integrated. The car is indeed over heating. Im suspecting that i got alot of air in the system while trying to flush the coolant (i drained and ran clean water through the rad while the car was running. I also held the revs up around 3k because i thought this would clear any air in the system. I did this until nothing but clear water came out) i filled with coolant started the motor and no coolant drained from the tank. I went for a drive and it over heated....maybe i got more air in the system by doing that flush? The coolant NEEDED to flus the crap that came out was scary

what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.

It is most likely the case that the bypass/bleed grove in the thermostat housing is all gunked up so there is a ton of air stuck in the system. You would have to run the car until the thermostat opens, which is probably sort of scary since it appears to be overheating (which could just be due to a giant air bubble). I recommend getting a new thermostat housing gasket & thermostat O-ring (and maybe a new 88C thermostat) and pulling the housing to clear out the bypass groove. Doing that should allow you to almost completely fill the system and get 99% of the air out within 10 seconds of starting the car.

Thanks, I forsure did not do it correctly. I poured it waay to quickly. Would you suggest a swap or at least having another m42/44 laying around for procaution? Seeing as there was a good amount of sand/dirt in the cooling system? It drives very smooth and doesnt really give signs near death : /

About the thermostat! I actually have one laying but i forgot to get a gasket : / a gasket from the dealer would not be the same right? I should get the gasket from whichever brand the thermo is?

Thanks all, I solved the overheating upon idle and got the coolant to circulate enough to fill the system. ALOT of air bubbles came out, i have no idea how i managed to get it all that in there.

Good news. The m42 can be a pain to bleed when the little bleed groove is plugged, mostly because air bubbles make the temp gauge indicate an overheating condition which is scary as F...except you have to let it idle for 5ish minutes to get the thermostat open to let the air out if the groove is plugged.
