Diesel sound from cams after rebuild

I know there's threads about this and So before anyone bashes me to READ or use the search bar I've searched for days and nothing quit fits my scenario...since I got the 318is it's been about a month of my mechanic working on it and here's a list of what's been done so far (my pockets are starting to hurt and I'm stumped and impatient someone help! Lol)

Keep in mind this motor has sat since +- 60k with an open head

I've had it in the shop about a month and have replaced literally everything but the damn motor itself..
I've had the head machined, the bottom end has awesome compression so I really didn't touch anything else on the bottom end..., bought new plugs, wires, fuel, oil and air filters, new fuel pump, water pump, thermostat all hoses for vacuum and coolant, belts ,new clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder with new hose, all new rotors, pads, lines and sensors, front hubs and rear bearings replaced... Complete bluntech lemmfoerder suspension overhaul kit underneath with a uuc sway bar kit front and back, new strut mounts all four corners, bilstein sport cup kit (not to happy with the height diffrence) motor mounts, trans mount, idler pulley and changed the main relays that where most important and where available for the time being along with all new fuses...

    Here's where my problem is:
We reassembled everything charged it up and started it up flawlessly... It idles beautifully BUTTT..... I'm now getting this dreaded diesel noise from what seems like one of the cams.. It sounds like it's not getting oil to it properly.. I know it's not timing or the belt skipping a tooth because I had a BMW tech friend of mine around when we checked it..and Im positive the valves aren't bent since they where fine when assembling earlier... Could anyone tell me if maybe the wrong oil could be a factor or maybe since its sat so long I should leave it running a little longer to let it lubricate better? I'm lost and no longer have another hand or knowledgable partner to help until he gets back from his trip in a few months... Lifters seem good also

I've put so much into this car I could have probably swapped by now but I'm hoping that somone has been in this situation and might be familiar with a resolution..btw is anyone hear local to Louisville ky?

Still idles but the idle surges up and down? Think the idle problem is icv? I ordered a new one today just to be safe and a coolant temp sensor for the hell of it.. Still the cam/lifter sound is my biggest concer.. And we let it run for about 5 minutes yesterday but the sound didn't change except the idle surge after about 3 minutes in

I'd agree with this... What oil and weight are you running?

Mine is loud on cold startup but if I hold it about 1.5k for a min then proceed on my trip its quiet when I get wherever, so mine hates being cold for some reason... Either bad cold tolerances or cold oil doesn't like to flow. More revs when warming up raise oil pressure

Also,, if I'm backing into a spot or whatever when the revs drop to below idle my oil pressure light will flicker...

well yeah i checked and they are from the oil pump and upper oil pan apparently.. but i just bought an 86 325e.. I'm deciding to swap that motor into my 318 for now and completely tear down the old motor and see what sup with it instead of trying to change one problem at a time.. any one done this? and if so was the ground wire and relay location the only problem they ran into? I'm parting out the rest of the 325e if anyones interested

If the oil pump bolts are missing, you probably had next to no flow of oil, and the timing chain was slapping around.
