    92 e30 318i (m42)convertible fuel pump

Hoping someone can help me out. My fuel pump has taken a crap, and I went to purchase a new one at Advance, and they give me an outside the tank in-line pump, and I have an in-tank pump. Both show online as exact fits for my car. Are there two?? Getting the correct parts for this car has proven to be a nightmare, and there is no "Bentley" manual for my car. I just want to know what to buy. Anybody have experience with changing a fuel pump on this model (relay is fine)?

Pull your backseat and remove the access cover to the fuel pump. Count the hoses going to the fuel pump and that'll let you know if you have the 318i(2 hose) or the 325i(1 hose) pump. Realoem will give you a part number. Order from one of the guys here that support this forum.

Get the Bentley for e30's if you need body work info, get the e36 Bentley for m42 engine specs. There's pdf.s floating around if you search hard enough.

        Grab a P/N from here:

        Then buy the part here:

        www.rmeuropean.com

For the fuel system, search under 1991 318i E30. Most vendors consider 1992 318i to be an E36 so you might just be constantly getting fed the wrong information.

Thank you guys! Got the fuel pump situation sorted out. The "realOEM" site is a freaking gem. More useful than either manual, or my "e30 bible".
