Well I just swapped in a new 88c. Tested old one too... works perfectly... but that little channel on the housing was gunked with dirko as I had suspected. Reinstalled everything bled the system now whats wierd is coolant will only come out of bleed screw if I rev engine. Besides that doesn't do jack plus now lower rad hose is cool and upper is hot... I'm so over it... help... is this a huge air bubble??

Coolant should some out of the bleed screw at idle if the car is warmed up... this is curious.

Is the lower rad hose really "cool"? Or is it just less hot than the upper hose? A truly cool hose would suggest there is no coolant flowing through the rad.

Ok so I just ran across an article here with someone having the same problem. I'm on my cell using tapatalk (never used it before) so forgive me for not having any link.

But the fix is really easy to recite.

Remove the gauge cluster and make sure the ground is tight for the temp gauge. Apparently they like to loosen up frequently. I'll be checking mine when I get home tonight

I removed the gauge cluster this morning and checked everything. All solders were good, nothing loose. I took the temp gauge out and cleaned all the ground contact as best I good and put the nut back on extra tight. The washer between the gauge and cluster casing was slightly warped so I tried to flatten it for better contact. Popped it all back in and the needle was stuck right at 12oclock. It budged a hair past it but there was no gap between the needle and center line. On the way home this evening it remained a couple ticks below the center the entire drive. Which was mostly all downhill in cool california weather.

I think that did the trick

So I actually fixed my cooling issue... and the cooling system was not the culprit... hear me out fellas cause it's actually a stupid story. So on the 5th my car started to overheat. What I failed to mention is that starting to car also was weird it would crank super slow and sometimes wouldn't. I started my car probably 5 times on Sunday. Thought it would have been starter at the time. Fast forward through all the days I was asking for help till Thursday while driving to work as I exited the freeway I noticed my steering get really stiff checked it out at work and my motor was sitting on the steering rack. Didn't think much of it at the time but after work I checked more thoroughly and the subframe broke on the passenger side. The ground strap also snapped off which lead to my starter issue, thermometer bounce, and overheating... Left it at one of the autoshops at work and it was fixed next day...

Point is if your cooling ain't working, and you have checked off everything else... check your motor! LOL

Lol damn. Yeah a broken ground strap will definitely mess with things. Glad you got it figured out.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years, but it makes perfect sense. Glad you got it figured out!
