Mess Under The Intake (Lower Manifold Removal)

Hey guys, I've been trying to do some maintenance on my car water pump, thermostat, belts and all the vacuum lines as well. I've run into a problem though everything I've read about this says to just pull the lower manifold off, but there's two studs one is attached to a mount that goes to I think the tranny and the other attaches to a bracket that I can't move, but can remove the pic shows it better they're under ports 2 & 3

If anyone has taken the lower manifold off, how'd you do it? Please respond quickly I need to finish all this by Monday so I can have a car for school lol

You'll need to remove those two brackets under ports 2&3. Make sure you didn't miss any nuts.

Thank you! It didn't look like it could be removed

You'll just need to reach down a bit further I believe the one on the left is held on by 3 nuts or bolts.

Yes, remove the 13mm and the 10mm on the left bracket and undo the 10mm on the right bracket. Then you will need to take the fuel lines off, be sure to mark them in some way, and replace the soft line while you are there. There's also the fuel line electrical connector (in the pic next to the vacuum booster line).

When you reassemble be aware that the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line can get caught between the two parts of the manifold. There is also a clip on the upper manifold that is often overlooked to route that vacuum line.

Also be aware that both halves of the manifold have alignment dowels that can get stuck on either side of the manifold or the head and can sometimes come off slightly.

While you're there replace the two short rubber fuel lines. I almost Burnt my car down because of them

I tried removing them but they wouldn't budge at all, so I think they're staying unfortunately lol.

Don't feel too overwhelmed it's not too bad actually.

There's a color coded diagram in there which should help a ton.
While in there I replaced all my heater lines and coolant resevoir line as well. In the diagram there is a turquoise colored connection which comes off the plastic pipe, I recommend using the e36 part for that to loop it back into the block. It's pre-bent hose lines up almost perfectly.

Take your time and do it right, do the water pipe while in there its $20.00 for the OEM one and like $12.00 for aftermarket. Many people find out about this the hard way. replace all the hoses, lines and vacuum hoses while there. you will regret it if you don't! relax and go slow it really isn't hard.

Yeah once I took everything apart it made a lot more sense, being in the sun all day doesn't help my brain function at it's best haha. For the hose that goes from the top of the pipe to the cylinder head did you guys just use a 5/8 coolant hose and some clamps or did you use a reducer for a better fit. The 5/8 seems a little loose on the cylinder head, so I figured I'd ask before I put everything back together

I got the oem one it was not too expensive however, not worth using 5/8 in my opinion just because of the location .

This is the part I used for the hose that goes from the top of the pipe to the cylinder head. It reduces to the size of the connection at the cylinder head as well, and the bends line up almost perfectly, so there's no extra twists in the hose. You'll just need to shave down the ends a little bit.

At first I tried using two hoses and a reducer to make my own but just ended up being to bulky and too many clamps so there was potential for more leaks.

No problem once you get the OEM hose, you'll feel a lot better cause I was going to leave the 5/8 but in the back of my mind I couldn't stop thinking about it leaking lol
