New Fan Clutch - Still stopped by roll of paper

    Hi guys,

My 318iS was running hot during standing traffic so I found a way to test the fan clutch was to jab a roll of paper into the fan and see if it stops the fan. It did, so i replaced the fan clutch this morning with a new unit. When cold, the paper no longer stopped the fan. When up to running temps tho, the paper still stopped the fan. Did i get a bad clutch..? Also, still see temp gauge creeping up when sitting still.

    Thanks for your input guys.

Recently replaced the fan clutch in my daily. The old clutch would be stopped almost immediately when warm by ~4 sheets of newspaper rolled up loosely, never checked it when cold. The new one can also be stopped by the same paper, but it isn't a quick or reliable stop.

Be sure that you've bled your system (worth doing again if temps are creeping), that you don't have a weird leak (check your hoses for bulges, inspect the coolant pipe), that the radiator isn't blocked internally or externally, and that the alt/WP belt is tight.

If a video of the new one in my car after 600 miles would be helpful I'll get one.

If you are overheating, there is a different problem than the fan. You should be able to run in 90ยบ weather with no fan and not overheat.
