Hitting the flywheel with a torch first will make taking the ring gear off a piece of cake .

Good to know about the starter wiring, I have never heard about that before.

The M42 ring gear does not fit the M20 flywheel without modification. The M42 ring has a smaller ID than the M20 one. The flywheel has to be turned down for it to fit.

Absolutely not true unless there are different m42 or different M20 flywheels.
I did the ring gear swap myself and it fit perfectly.

So did I and it needed modification. Thus,
there are different m42 or different M20 flywheels.

I looked in to it a bit. Nobody else seems to have had that problem. There must have been something different with your set up?

wouldnt that make the metal expand, and make the gear harder to come off?

You can, but I wouldn't. I think it will bolt up just fine, but the M42 uses a 215mm clutch and the M20 is 228mm.

                            that and the new bearings.
But I would just swap the m42 ring gear on to the m20 flywheel.
That way you don't have to mess with your starter.

9.5 is REALLY light. It will rattle and idle rough with that light of a flywheel.
