i was driving in my 318is redlining gears, and i put it in neutral as i was cruising down a hill, and my car stops, so i restart it again and it chokes at idle , revs up, chokes, an so on. if i gave the car gas it was fine, i drove it home fine, but at stops i had to make sure i reved it in order to not stall. this morning i cleaned out the maf and icv and i thought the idol problem stopped, but as i let it idol for a few minutes it starts to choke a little again (not as bad as before) for a bit then slowly it goes back to a normal idol and it happens again. i checked the check engine with the gas pedal test and i read it as 1222, which is "Lambda Control 1". i thought maybe it the icv, vacum hoses, or the maf sensor, and maybe even the car is running rich. it seems that the problem only exists at idol. i need help !:(
engine idols weird, help me please

Seriously though, the guys above are right. M42s suck for vac lines, I eliminated the mess, it blows!Comment

alright well i cleaned out the icv, and that had a major cracked hose connected, so i taped the cracks for now, i turned it on and it was a little better, so i unplugged the tps and the battery replugged and it was the same, (better than the first night), so i was frustrated and took it out for a hard drive around the block, came back and it idles 10x better! it still slightly drops a little like every minute or so and tries to compensate for it, but its not noticeable. but it might have been those vac lines, so im gonna go ahead and replace all of them asap and ill see if it idles perfect once more.Comment

M42 is both prone and sensitive to intake leaks. There's a thread about cleaning up the "mess under the intake." Check it out before you start replacing hoses.alright well i cleaned out the icv, and that had a major cracked hose connected, so i taped the cracks for now, i turned it on and it was a little better, so i unplugged the tps and the battery replugged and it was the same, (better than the first night), so i was frustrated and took it out for a hard drive around the block, came back and it idles 10x better! it still slightly drops a little like every minute or so and tries to compensate for it, but its not noticeable. but it might have been those vac lines, so im gonna go ahead and replace all of them asap and ill see if it idles perfect once more.Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.Comment

just in case it isnt your vaccum lines. my car had rough idle and gradually got worse and my car had trouble starting and wouldnt run for more than 30 sec. turned out to be a bad fuel pump
