dAMN! OK please quit posting asking what to use for this swap, go read THIS and come back asking for help if you ever get this going AFTER you have for answers and need help 2 years down the road...

This subject has been exhausted and gone over so many times that honestly the 24v thread could be locked and you could still get the job done when needed...

Shit I am going to get flamed for providing that, oh well!

THIS is also a great read for 24v e30 swaps...

well actually, i found that a getrag 260 will work (i think) only problem will be starter and flywheel teeth?

but the drive shaft will have to be shortened...and balanced.

i will custom fab mounts, etc.. ( i can weld)

all the wiring and ecu shit i can get out of a totalled m3, so thats not a prob.

          happy now?

BEFORE i invest int obuying a totalled m3 just to get the motor out of, i'd just like to know what all E30 works, and what all e30 doesnt.

ive been reading that thread, and it seems as if everything e30 didnt work, and thats DEF gonna hold me up, bc i dont want to buy a m3, then be ready to drop the motor, and the shit not work.

im 17 right now, ive pulled and replaced m20's, but never changed from motor to motor, thats why im confused,
i have searched, its just i havent found what i was looking for.
I'm just going to be serious for a moment here because I think I'm the only professional in this thread so far. (I haven't been paying attention though...)

As far as I've heard you can actually keep the drivetrain from an M42 car and just bolt the motor up but don't expect your tranny to last long. The 260 out of a 325i works with a custom brace because it will have to sit rotated 15˚ off it's normal location. the best plan by far is the E36 ZF tranny and a driveshaft out of a 328i, but this will require a final drive change as it has a 1:1 5th gear and will be stupid short otherwise.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
