    E30 w/ M50 and G260, Time to Refresh shifter

So my shifter is getting worn and sloppy so time to replace. Car is 89 325i w/ m50b25 using stock g260 tranny, I have gen 1 garagistic tranny crossmember and stock shifter and linkage. No complaints with shifter as is, Right sided tile isn't a biggie.
Decided to try something different and get a B&M 45126 shifter. I can use the stock carrier but do I need a dssr? I'll probably do poly or delrin shifter bushings. I think only other thing I need is carrier bushing? Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks

In my experience, the stock DSSR can wear and add slop to the shifter with new bushings. I would inspect the stock DSSR for abnormal wear on the metal parts. Also test fit it into your new shifter. If it wiggles, you will have some slop. Will it be terrible? Probably not, that depends on how picky you are. My preference is a high quality DSSR with pins that remove any slop. Then everything else is OE replaced.

I actually never got around to doing this cuz the problem wasn't that bad. In the meanwhile I accumulated the B&M shifter, a stock shifter, and the garagistic twisted dssr plus UUC twisted dssr. My current plan is to just keep current stock shifter and use uuc dssr and fresh bushings. I'm also looking into possibility of threading top of shifter to be able to use normal thread on shift knobs.

Not a fan. What type of suspension set up are you using and how do you drive the car? Drivetrain would have to be full metal bushing and nvh would be unbearable I would think.

I'm using ground control coilovers. I also have Condorspeedshop delrin bushings and mounts. To me this setup is raw and it does have NVH. But it is not unbearable. I like the feeling. I do drive this car a lot, but it's not my only car (2024 M340i is my daily). So I don't care how uncivil this car gets. It's a toy to me.

That's the spirit! Do what you want and have fun. I call my car a toy too. I have GC coils too, and fresh oem bushings all the way around. My S13 is my stiff car with full cusco pillow ball and poly suspension.

The only thing that has been somewhat of a pain to get used to is my new clutch and flywheel.
