    1988 325e Getrag 260 - Short Shifter

Just got this car and the shifter is sloppy, loose, etc ... looking to put in a DSSR + short shifter to help out. I've found a few chassis mount short shifters I like but I'm unsure of the DSSR ... which one work for me? BTW: I'm 100% new to working on cars so picking up and learning so if I'm way off here open to all suggestions.

    shifters I'm looking at

The original BMW E30 chassis mount short shifter! Our bolt-on solid shifter requires no drilling and is fully rebuildable. Made in USA.

    thanks

I just put in a garagistic DSSR (with a twist since I’m 24V) and the shifter from a z3 1.9, along with all new bushings/selector joint, and it made a HUGE difference in shifter feel. The z3 1.9 shifter is the tallest of the Z3 upgrades, but still shorter than the stock e30 shifter. Might be worth considering if you care about keeping the OEM look, plus it’s pretty easily reversible. At the very least you should replace the bushings since they’re probably cooked.

new bushings and a no- name $20 ePay shift lever/ UUC knock off here. It's fine. I don't like the body- mounted
version unless the engine's also hard- mounted, and that's... well, that's fine if you're racing.
      Hard on the fillings, otherwise.
