I have an auto 90 325is that has a wierd problem that I have not been able to figure out. It is leaking ATF out of the kickdown cable where it connects to the throttle body. I have had it to a tranny place and they said everything is fine internally as it shifts fine and functions as it should. They had no idea how or why the kickdown cable would be allowing ATF to leak from that point and all down the starter and engine. It really isn't a problem other than I need to make sure the ATF is topped off and it drips all over the garage floor. I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen and how to fix. Thanks!

wait....you're leaking ATF from around the throttle body? As in, at the intake manifold? There is no ATF anywhere near the manifold, no hoses or lines or anything that should contain ATF. Are you sure that it is ATF and not some other fluid? -
It is coming from the kickdown cable that is connected to the transmission. The cable is in a sleeve that has a threaded end on it to adjust the slack at the throttle body and the fluid is coming out at that point. It gets on the manifold and drains down a hole in the manifold onto the starter and block. There is nothing else up that high that it could possibly come from and my power steering does not leak or need fluid replaced. The tranny does need the fluid topped off and the mechanic at the tranny shop said the fluid is not leaking from anywhere on the tranny itself or the cooler lines. I swear it is coming from the kickdown cable. The difference between porcupines and BMWs is that porcupines have the pricks on the outside!Comment

My understanding is that the kickdown cable is simple a steel cable identical to the throttle cable. There's no fluid in it, and I can't imagine fluid wicking that far up the cable. Have you cleaned off the lever arm where the cable attaches to the transmission, to see if it's leaking down there too? Also, pics would be a big help.Comment

Seen this more than a few times.
The transmission breather vent is clogged.I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃x ∈ S : φ(x)) → (∀x ∈ S : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".Comment

So I am not crazy...there is ATF coming from the kickdown cable!!! Thank you Liam for confirming this. I have owned this car for about 18 months now and it has done this from day one. How does one unclog the breather vent and how does the vent get clogged in the first place? The difference between porcupines and BMWs is that porcupines have the pricks on the outside!Comment

High pressure caused this... Id say it was overfilled and or the breather was clogged.
