    A little help please???

I have a thumping coming from the rear of my ’92 cab. I have replaced both wheel bearings, the diff., and halfshafts. The noise is rhythmic and matches the wheel speed. I also checked the e brake assemblies and everything looked ok.

As I was spinning the driveshaft, I noticed a light metallic sound at the tailshaft of the tranny. As I look between the guibo and driveshaft flange, I can see what appears to be a yellow zinc retainer of some sort, which is loose. It looks very much like the rear axel nut lock ring. My questions is: Does any one have a pic of the forward portion of the driveshaft? I need a visual before I take the entire bottom of the car apart.

    TIA!

Check the condition of the rubber mount of the CSB. I'm guessing that you will find it has damage, which means that you need to replace both the CSB and drive shaft. You may also need a new guibo.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

sounds like from your description the rear flange nut on the transmission may be loose..
other than that, from the symptoms i would say its the guibo and/or csb

Thanks, yeh, that was what I was worried about. It's been a couple of years since I pulled a tranny and I couldn't picture the assembly in my head.

Do you mean the output shaft locking plate? You can look up the part number for a picture.
23-21-1-490-120 Safety plate/Lock plate, driveshaft output flange, $0.85/$1.33

If it's loose, you should take off the flex disk (yes, a PITA) make certain that the nut hasn't come loose. If the output flange isn't clamped tightly, the splines will wear. You'll need a new transmission to fix that problem.
