    Different flex disc sizes?

So, I pulled out my flex disc today to put on my driveshaft, since I was planning on gettin that back on soon - and low and behold, the damn thing is crap loads smaller than the one on my driveshaft right now. Therefore, the thing wouldn't even close to fit.

I look in the ETK, and sure enough, there's two different sizes. The smaller sized was supposedly used up until 4/86 - after that the larger size was used. I have the one that is 110 mm in diameter - the one I need has to be 135mm in diameter.

What's really strange is that Pelican Parts sells the 110mm flex disc for ALL e30 models...kind of strange isn't that?

So, is there a reason that there are two different sizes? Is it just because the driveshaft was a little bit bigger after 4/86?

Just thought I'd see if anyone has any input on this issue. ;)

    Thanks!

1987 325e were the only model to use the Large flexdisk besides the m3. So youre driveshaft must be that model, Pefect for an m30 swap as it bolts right in :D You'll either have to find the larger flange for the Tranny, or swap driveshafts.

Wow, really? Sweet! It's nice having a bigger driveshaft anyway. I could take the driveshaft off my 88 IS parts car, but, why not keep the bigger one? :D

I have a VERY early model 88 Super Eta - I'm pretty sure it's somethin like a 11/87 production date.

So, does that mean I would buy the M3 flex disc from Pelican parts, and that would be the one to fit on my car?

Really doesn't matter, since I'll be buying locally, but thought I'd ask ;)

Pelican Parts' directory is all messed up for the guibos. It says one will fit a car, then go to the cart and it will be backwards. I just took a random guess and ordered one hoping it fit.

why not order from somebody who doesn't have a goofy catalog, instead of wasting money on the wrong parts?

Why not look up the part you need in the BMW ETK (parts catalogue) and make sure you are ordering the right part?

You can find the complete BMW ETK on-line at the following URL, just input your VIN and it will tell you what parts are correct for YOUR car.
