HAHAHA good solution! Buy a late tranny

Swapping the flange will likely be just as pricey

what would I need to do to swap a late model trans into an 86 eta? i know the eta has the 2 ref. sonsors? but the late models dont.. im 5spd swapping my car and came on a deal, id be getting all the swap parts, trans has z3 short shift. would there be anything special needing to be done other than the swap itself? as in the sensors...

If it is the early style tranny without the cast-in mount for late model aluminum arm shifter type, you can use a oem BMW M3 part that allows for this exact scenario.

You have two choices. The easiest and cheapest would be to swap that transmission for an early one with holes for the sensors. The other would be to convert the engine into a budget stroker which eliminates the need for the bellhousing sensors.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
