    Advance Auto Halfshaft Fittment

    Hello,
I ordered a new half shaft from advance auto and when I went to install it. The flange on the differential side did not fit. When compared to the OEM the flange was larger. Splines were fine.

Should I reorder from Advance? I read all the half shaft threads and I have not heard of any other fitment issue with the Advance shafts.

I'm REALLY short on time here, any help is appreciated

You should return it and never get parts for a BMW from them again.
    Try pelicanparts, azautohaus, bavauto, etc.
They sell the OE and OEM brands there.

Did Iowa make you stupid and illiterate? Who said anything about stealerships?

Read the two posts above yours and try again.

They gave you the wrong shaft. Take it back and make them swap it. Yes, everyone on here is a bunch of cheap fuckers that put broken shit on their cars to save a few bucks but if you're in a time crunch an aftermarket shaft is going to be fine, as long as you have the right one. You most likely got one for an E36 or something by accident, just take it back and measure the BCD on the replacement before you take it home.

The only problems I've had with the half shafts from Advance (or other non-OE sources) has been that the outer CV boots are wrong and will rub on the springs & shock. I've also seen that problem with all of the non-OE boots I've tried.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

And sadly that's the only option a lot of the time. Or at least the only cost-effective option.

He's exactly right. You may have gotten a mis-package. I work at Advance Auto and I've seen lots of stupid things that are NOT even our fault, such as a radiator cap inside a thermostat box... more than once. I just wish everybody would do their job right so everything can go smoothly. Try to order another one.

Let's not blindly bash Autozone/Advance Auto/Pep Boys for their parts. Just because it came from them does not mean it's junk.

For instance, Autozone sells Timkin branded front wheel bearings for $100. Open the box and look at the stamp on the bearing race, it's a genuine FAG part. It has a 1 year warranty, is OE, and is cheaper then bavauto/bmaparts/etc...

I just got a clutch master cylinder from Autozone last night. It was $50 and has a lifetime warranty. Seemed like a quality part to me, I guess time will tell how long the seals hold up. If/When they do fail, I'll get another one for free.

                      ^ thank you

I used to work for O'Reilly Auto and we could get a suprising number of different OE parts, for cheaper or at least quicker than Pelican/BavAuto

I have a buddy at CarQuest who I always, ALWAYS go to first for parts of any sort. Usually he can get me OEM stuff for cheaper than Pelican or anything from the online retailers. I don't bash car parts stores, but I'm likely to walk right back out of the store if the guys I know aren't there. I have three shops that I go to, and I'm allowed to walk in the back of any of them. Being technically competent goes a long way with some of your local parts jockeys, and they'll cut you all sorts of slack, financially and otherwise, simply because most of the people they deal with are idiots. They love it when you come in with a part number, an alternate part number, a cross-reference code, AND a diagram of the part when you're looking for a replacement.

Make friends with your local parts peoples!

I've had a set of NAPA replacement axles for 2.5 years with no problems. 50 miles a day for the commute, about 10 autocross set-up days (the real race car is the my miata), and 2 track sessions at VIR. Oh, and they see all of the 238rwhp and 229 rwt the motor can supply daily. 40K plus and still good!
