    Shifter swap, easy?

I have a short shift lever in my 91 318is right now, I'm considering swapping it out for a less notchy/crunchy stock one. The current linkage was fully rebuilt when I bought the car about 15,000km ago, all bushings are brand new. How hard is the shifter to access from the top? I have access to tools but no hoist, otherwise I'm paying $100 for a shop to do the change.

I suspect I'll need my snap ring pliers as one "specialty" tool, anything else?

A screw driver. You should be able to do it from the top in less than an hour. Even less time if you put the car on jack stands to get better access to the shift linkage.

Mother fucker that easy? I knew it wasn't worth paying someone to do it.
