    Trans Dimension ?s

    alright so,

I am trying to mate my dogleg trans (Getrag 245/11 i think, has M60 marked on the case) with my m20. I am using a clutch which is made for the G260. Doing some cross referencing shows that all of the clutch components except the TOB in some cases are the same P/N for a early euro 323i and a late model 325i. Right now what im hoping to do is

    a) get advice from someone who has done this trans swap

    b) get a measurement from the inside of the bellhousing of a G260

-When i try to mate the trans to the engine i am left with about a half inch gap btw bellhousing and engine. The clutch is aligned perfectly, my tool slips and slides in and out with the lightest touch, there is nothing in the way either. What im thinking is that eithere the TOB sticks out too far (thus the diff P/N found sometimes for the 323i) or the input shaft tube is longer on the dogleg and thus is hitting the hub of the clutch.

    So
    a) if anyone knows anything about the components i should be using to mate these two together please let me know.

    b) if someone could please take a couple measurements of the input shaft tube. Id like to get 3

    1) the overall length of the tube from where in meets with the Trans case to where the shaft comes out of it.
    2) from the surface where the pivot arm clips on to where the shaft comes out of the tube.
    3) from the mounting surface on the bellhousing to where the shaft comes out of the tube.

    Thank you much

I'll whip up some measurements later when I finish some stuff and can mess around in the garage.

For #2 are you referring to the surface the pivot sits in to the mounting surface of the bellhousing?

#2 is the pivot/slave surface to the end of the tube, all these measurments have to do with that tube.

Well I took a look, and the bad news is I forgot that I removed the guide tube a while back. BUT, I can give you at least an idea since the input shaft has a distinct line where the grease ends where the input shaft comes out of the tube.

          Based on the grease line
          1. guide tube length (assuming I guessed the width of the base correct, was 3.75 in
          2. distance from pivot surface to beginning of input shaft is 3 in.
          3. distance from bellhousing mounting surface from where the input shaft starts is 3 in.

Here are some. I also took pictures of what I measured

              Getrag 260

              1. 2 13/16''

              2. 1 1/2''

              3. 3 1/4''

Hope that is what you are looking for!

                  so heres what i measure

                  1) 2 1/2
                  2) 1 3/8
                  3) 3 7/8

i think the TOB must be hitting the fingers early

can anyone take a measurement of the pressure plate please. from the flywheel surface to the tips of the fingers.

alright well based on my measurements of my clutch and TOB as well as my trans and the 260 the clearance between the TOB and the clutch fingers are the same for both trannys. guess my problem lies elsewhere.

                      Thanks for the help
