    Unocupied trans holes?

I was recently under my car and noticed these two holes, could not figure out what is supposed to go in there? Insight? Its on the drivers side.

Those look to me to be where the timing reference sensors would be on an ETA car. To keep junk out of the bell housing I'd make up a couple of teardrop shaped plates to bolt over the holes.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

There are factory plugs you can buy to put in those holes.
