If the noise only occurs when the transmission is in neutral and the clutch is engaged the sound is from wear in the transmission shaft input bearings. That is a common complaint from those who have switched to a lightweight flywheel. You could try a slightly heavier transmission lube, but if that doesn't help you'll have to learn to live with the noise or get a rebuilt transmission.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

if your getting rattle, it could be vibration at higher rpm's. sounds like something is loose maybe.

The engine would be running and the car stationary in all these scenarios.

Noise with foot off of clutch and trans in neutral = transmission problem (like no oil or a bad input shaft bearing.) However, there is a small possibility that it is the release bearing making noise. Iif you put just a little load on the pedal (not enough to disengage the clutch) and the noise goes away, that is a noisy, but not necessarily bad release bearing.

Noise with clutch pedal depressed fully and trans in neutral or in any gear = bad release bearing.

Noise with clutch pedal depressed fully and trans only in gear but no noise (or much less noise) in neutral= bad pilot bearing.

Now that would be worrisome to me. I'd wonder if there was an assembly problem or if the flywheel wasn't balanced. I wouldn't drive the car until I'd found an fixed the problem. A clutch blowing up a high rpm makes a lot of noise and scares the horses and it gets expensive.

I can't really take credit. A friend of mine on mye28 posted that. He's a BMW master. I just saved it for reference. ;)

This noise is comon did you have a sprung hub clutch or non
If you had a Dual mass fly you had a non sprung hub clutch and when you switch to a sigle mass or light weight fly you need a spurng hub clutch or you will get the little rattle at idle or have your idle bumped up a tad.

Try the stainless flywheels if it is not rattle. I'm just using the stainless one. :D

Rattle seems to be common. The aluminum hat that the TOB slides along can get warped over time and is listed as a wear item. I always have my flywheel and pp balanced together.

My car is noisy all around, stiff suspension, vert, large wheels, etc. My solution was to install a good sound system and turn the volume up.

Maybe the harmonics from the driveline are transmitted more from the aluminum.
