    Anyone break this part before?

I recently got around to installing the gearshift rod joint on my transmission. Problem occurred after I took a test drive around the block and the damn thing snapped. Before you ask, yes I installed it correctly and when I went through the gears before even driving it everything seemed to be in good working condition. I emailed the good people at BMA because I am thoroughly confused as to how it snapped completely in half. Heres the real oem pic for reference. Its part number 16.

Yes, they have been known to break time to time especially if it's old. Usually when replacing shifter components all should be replaced with new. Otherwise the weakest link which is usually the older parts takes on extra load....,and breaks. Get yourself a new one.

doesn't matter. it's gets old..only factor involved here is "stress" and age. since most e30's are over 20 years the bushing wear out and this puts load on the knuckle. could be rusted, but not necessarily. It is what it is... :-)

yes but it's steel. It doesn't fatigue like aluminum does. rust would definitely make it break easier.

The company probably had a bad batch of metal come in, that kind of stuff happens when stuff is made on an assembly line. On the Toyota truck I use to own I built the piss out the engine and in stalled a clutch master kit in it, and when I fired it up to start the break in, hit the clutch and wham to floor and that's where it stayed. When I was done freaking out I took it all apart and found that the steel tabs on the t/o bearing for the clutch fork snapped right off. Called them up told them what had happened and they said that I had got the one out of like a thousand that just wasn't up to snuff is all. Got it replaced put it all back together and all was good once more.

Never seen one break. BMA should definitely replace that under warranty.

Well they replaced it. It was just a pain to limp my car home up a damn hill and reinstall a replacement..
