It doesn't matter whether you bleed the clutch with the slave mounted or dismouted and clamped shut. The ideal way to bleed the clutch is with a pressure bleeder. But it will self bleed by using your hand to pump the clutch pedal 50-70 times. In most cases, difficulty in bleeding the clutch will be a bad master cylinder. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Hey guy's I just got done reading this thread and will be reading the fyi section. I just did replace and put in a new slave cylinder, and having a hard time bleeding it. I called the local german car specialist repair shop and he said, that I wasn't done bleeding it. Is there another way to do it? Or am I just going to have to buy that power bleeder? Any help will be awesome.sigpic

I pumped it like he said about 20 times, then bled off the pressure. I did that for about 10 min, when I was done I fired it up to make sure it was working and it worked like it was suppose to. Ran through all the gears and everything, I shut it all off and loaded up all the tools and when I was done went to take off and it went back to the way it was, couldn't shift in to any gears again. I am going to bleed it again in the morning and see if there might have been air I missed. I need ideas and, or suggestions please.sigpic

Easiest way to bleed the clutch.
Make sure the brake res is full and just get under it with someone in the car.
Install everything slave in the bellhousing and master cyl in corect.
Open the slave, let it drip.... once it starts dripping have the one in the car push the pedal down to the floor with the bleeder is open.
Shut the bleeder before pulling the pedal up i do it with my fingers, pull the pedal up.
Open the bleeder again, push pedal down. It will shoot fluid and air out like there is no tomorrow.
I am a tech and do this lots. it saves time and you do not have to pump the pedal 20 times like every one says. I have swaped My M50 3 times and just did a 5 speed into an 86 es for a DD. Not counting how many times i have done this at work.
If all parts are in working order this should only take about 5 to 6 times of pushing the pedal down to get air all out and i would do another 4 times to make sure.Last edited by B3M2W5; 01-30-2011, 01:22 PM.Comment

Ok thanks alot for the info. Yeah I later bled the system it was working good let it sit for a bit and it still was working. Fired it up and put it in gear and all was good there, when to release the clutch and nothing. It tries to go but I think my pressure plate froze up and is only part way engaging it. The sad thing is that I think that was my problem this whole time.sigpic
