    528e 260 Getrag in 325i?

Hey guys, my first tech related post on the forums. I tried using the search function and google as much as I could, but just wanted to make sure I get answers to my exact question and not "related" topics etc.

I am trying to collect parts for a manual swap. I have a 89 325i and was wondering if a Getrag 260 (260.0.1044.90) out of a 1983 528E is the same as the 260 out of a 325e?
And are those similar enough to the regular 5 speeds found in 89 325i's to use in said swap? The only difference is the 2 sensor ports?

I read a bunch of 325e Getrag 260 related threads for swapping into a 325i and how there are/aren't differences with so many yes/no/maybe posts out there I am not sure what to believe.

Just wanted some confirmation and if I can make the tranny work in my I without any crazy mods.

An 83 528e had an M20 engine so I'd expect that the Getrag 260 from that car to be the same as was used on 325e cars. That would mean that it has the timing sensor ports in the bell housing (which you don't need) and only accepts the sheet metal shift console. I don't know which output flange the transmission would have, but it can be changed. It should work.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Bumping an old thread to update the info. I am in the exact same boat. I have a 83 528E 5 Speed that I will be removing to install in my 89 325I.

If Jim Levie said it should work, it should work. Post up when it does!

Threadjack, anyone know how Jim's doing?

I am going to use my Pedal Assembly from the E28, less the box. RealOEM shows all same P/N's. The E30 Manual Box is the same P/N as the E30 Auto Pedal Box. The only visable difference is two square nuts attached for the Clutch Master Cylinder where the Auto has only holes. Have not seen the P/N's for the nuts yet in RealOEM.
