Whining from tranny

The car is a 91' 318is. It speaks the truth im still kinda new to the car though my mechanic skills are not bad but i am not sure about it. I know some cars with the limited slip will make such a noise but this is just rediculous. I was just wondering if i need to yank the tranny and have the thing looked at or is it normal. It mostly is annoying on the highway so thats why i thought it was normal but it just seems to be a little much. If anyone could help that would be great.

Have you checked the fluid?

If you have an LSD, change your fluid to Redline 75x90 with LSD additive. If this doesn't help out, your differential might be on its last legs. They should not be loud.
