why do you think you need a stage 2 clutch if you have a 318is? that whopping 140hp does not warrant a stronger clutch. i'll bet $5 that the oem clutch is good to 250whp.

oem clutch cost almost the same as aftermarket clutch, might as well spend a little more to get something better. Plus the car is going to be turbocharge in the future.

I support South Bend Clutch and have been for 6 years now. I've recommended them to probably around 40-60 people in the BMW community and hundreds of VW people. haven't gotten a single negative response.
idk what kind of aftermarket clutch kits you're buying but an OEM sach's kit can be source for like $175ish? what kind of aftermarket clutch would you be buying in that range that is quality???

Be ready to spend around at least $400+ for a nice aftermarket clutch.

I bought a stg. iV OFE clutch for my m20. I believe they were $475.00 2 years ago. Got mine for $300 through my dealer discount at the time. for an m42 turbo, i'd probably suggest the stage III OFE. Their OFE clutches use carbon/kevlar compound discs. Pressure plates grab great and feel stiff but not much worse than stock. I prefer a pedal thats harder to compress though. Call them and talk to Andy. He's their import guy and will suggest the best clutch for you motor plans.

Checked the south bend webpage out, couldnt find an m42 clutch on thier page. Im going to call tomorrow and ask.

Ive been trying to find a thread on here, but has anyone done the m20 single mass flywheel conversion? is it fairly easy? Seems like people on m42 club are doing all different custom type setups. Id like to just order the bolt on parts I need and get it done but im not sure if theres an easy way to do it.

                    Thanks -Evan

south bend doesn't make clutch kit for m42,already asked. I probabaly go with oem clutch but looking for a conversion kit to single mass flywheel.dual mass is so annoying.

Switch to an M20 flywheel and run and M20 clutch. Then you get a lighter flywheel and more surface area for the clutch.

and thats a direct bolt on?

Im doing this clutch with a buddy of mine thats a BMW tech so i want to have all the right parts present when we crack this thing open. I just want everything in order prior to starting the job.

Thanks for the info so far.

Exactly what I was going to say, Anything else is not worth it on the little 4 banger.
