I'm trying to do a 5 speed swap on my 1990 325i automatic. I have a 91 318i with a manual transmission (it should be a Getrag 240 right?) that I would like to put in my 325i.
I've read a lot on the forums and some say the G240 will bolt up just fine to an M20 (ex: "E30 318i/is '91: Getrag 240 but with a bellhousing that fits the M20/M50/M42 motors...") and some say it won't (ex: "...for your m20 you'll need a g260 off an m20 if you want the gearbox to bolt up fine on the correct angle.")
Has anyone actually put a G240 behind an M20? Does it work? Are there other things I have to do to get it to fit correctly? Are there downsides to having the G240 behind a 6 cylinder? (I know the gearing is a bit different)
And if it does work, how much from the 318i can I swap to my 325i? (driveshaft? clutch? shift linkage? etc.)
Thanks,
Luke
