    Help with guibo removal

Sprayed with pb last night and let it soak in. As you an see I've been use locking pliers to hold the nut and a 1/2 torque wrench and 3/8 ratchet with cheater bar. I can't get these bolts to move at all. The 1/2 doesnt have too much room, I was going to try an use the pipe in the picture on the torque wrench as a cheater bar but could not get it to fit. Is my only option to go buy/rent/borrow a 3/8 torque wrench or impact?

Or do you guys have some tips??

I have read my bentley's, pelican parts tech articles, and looked at this thread: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=114492 and haven't really told me anything I do not know. I have been at this for close to 3 hours and haven't gotten a single bolt out yet and I am getting frustrated.

I use a long box end wrench on the rear side of the bolts and a long open end wrench on the forward side. If the car is well up in the air (at least 2') those will work. You really can't get a straight shot at the bolts with a rachet and doing so risks rounding off the heads.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

car is probably a foot and a half in the air and sinking (heat + asphalt + weight of the car ) And I only have one 19mm comination wrench. I'll go to auto parts store tomorrow and take a peek around for another. Thanks for the tip. I imagine the ones you are using are really long cause these bolts are on there real good.

first off, never, never use a precision measurement tool for brute force bolt removal! torque wrenches are for torquing on bolts, not for what you are doing....

secondly, support the tranny with a jack and you can take the tranny crossbrace support off. this will open up access to the guibo much more.

are you using locking pliers because the nuts are rounded off? if not, use the proper tool (hopefully it's not too late).

a 1/2" impact wrench with quality 6-point impact sockets would take care of this quick. if you only have hand tools, than try the poor mans impact (pull and hammer at the same time with a BFH).

finally, since your guibo is completely toast anyway, you can try torching the nut in hopes that it will give.

Was using a combination wrench originally, but switched to the locking pliers so I could use both hands on the ratchet with cheater bar. Is there a place that does free rental of impact? I don't think an autoparts store will have impact for sale, much less rent.

Is a 3lb hammer big enough? That is the biggest I have.

I'll take cross brace off tomorrow and try poor man's impact. But how am I supposed to hammer, and hold two wrenches.

If that doesn't work I guess I'll look for some place to rent me an impact I guess.

            Thanks for all the advice/input

The wrenches I use are 16" long. By working one wrench against the other you can get a lot of force on the fasteners. The higher the car is in the air, the more force you can apply. I use six ton jackstands because they will support the car much higher in the air.

well if the bolts are that jammed, you usually dont need to hold both ends at once. i would just go at the nut with the combination wrench and hammer. once it starts spinning, then you need to hold both ends, but usually the hard part is done.

                heat will help alot too.

Alright. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

My floor jack isn't the best, my jack stands are only on their first peg could go higher if I had a better jack. I'll see what I can find wrench wise though

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it.

harbor freight has a corded, 250 lb-ft ~$65 electric impact that can usually handle suspension top hat nuts and guibo bolts if you have one near you. usually you can just straight up hit it with impact and the item will come loose.
