Small Case to large case problems

A problem I am encountering is going from a small case diff to a large case. I pulled the diff out of my m42 (3:91lsd) and noticed the rear cover needs to be swapped due to the mounting bracket on the rear of the diff.

I am swapping in a 3:25 lsd from an E28.

I am assuming I will need a rear cover from a large diff E30?!
    Does this sound right?

As far as the axle flanges the bolt pattern is the same, but are they different lengths? Do they need to be swapped from large diff to large diff?

    Any Ideas, thanks!!

yes you need output flanges and the cover from a large case E30 diff. the flanges pull straight out, no big deal.

Why is it that the output flanges
      need to be swapped?

because the ones you have dont fit correctly to the e30 axles. dont ask dumb questions.

E28 flanges make the differential wider than E30 flanges. I'll see if i can take a photo to show this.

Here's the pic. E30 (actually E36, but it'll do for example) flange on left and E28 right. You can just pull them out and change. There is a locking ring, but can be done with help of screwdriver.
