just received 1.9 Z3 Shift lever... i think its defective

Just received the shift lever from pelican parts. The portion on the left half has some wiggling room inside the rubber/metal housing on the right. My guess is this is not the way it is supposed to be. I would imagine something went wrong thermally when the rubber was poured and cooled, and the rubber shrank allowing for play.

Can anyone confirm this is defective? I am pretty bummed.

That's just the way they are, unfortunately. I bought one, but didn't like that play either, so I swapped up for a Rogue Engineering shifter.

Nah it was OEM. Kind of surprised - would expect better from BMW. Anywho, returned, waiting for new one to arrive.

The factory shifter I bought did the exact same thing as the OP's, as well as what is shown in the gif in the link I posted, and I have noticed (worse) play in used ones......not to mention that some people go as far as to take them apart and fill them with epoxy. That's why I assumed that it is a common problem with these shifters.

Dssr was one of the best mods I did to my car. Get one.

Edit: also next time get your parts from blunt. I got my z4 shifter from him in perfect condition a few weeks at ago.

My z3 shifter had a bunch of play as well, despite every other shifter-related bit being replaced as well. There's no dssr for the g240 is there? Not a fan of slop...

Pretty lame. I am considering sending them both back or just filling the gap with epoxy or silicon or something. How do u like ur Z3 overall?

I have a Z4 shifter, and that is definitely not the case with mine. I don't know what crap they're sending you, usually Pelican is reliable.
