Try a fluid change, it may very well work. If it's still whining then I would suspect the pinion bearings.

if you change the fluid yourself then be sure to check the fluid for metal shavings. If you have chunks in there then its time to replace the diff

Just give it some cheese with the whine.

haha thanks everyone. Ill do a flush and go from there. The whining is bad around 3000 rpms and 30-45 miles per hour.. cant really tell on the highway but ill listen more closely next time

If the whine changes with torque direction on the differential, the cause is probably wear or clearance issues with the ring and pinion gears. If the whine is constant worn bearing in the differential or wheels the more likely cause.

The parts to rebuild an LSD (less the shims) run close to $500. And during the rebuild you will have to shim the pinion to get the correct clearance on the ring gear. Not a trivial process. A good used differential can usually be found for less than $300.

Change the fluid in the differential (I use Redline 75w90 for an LSD or 75w90NS for an open differential) and check the wheel bearings.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Do lsd's lock out after too much whine ?

mine whines on 3rd while goiing uphills, I shift up or down, relubricate and no whine for a 100 ft.

maybe a clucht problem ? seems that lsd is not functioning anymore.
