    Driveshaft balance questions

So I pulled apart my drive shaft (1989 325iS) without marking it (I know...) and I want to know what my options are now. I know I can get it professionally re-balanced but I have also heard of another method. I spoke to someone at a driveline shop and apparently on my drive shaft there is a way to put the two pieces back together so that it is at the factory settings for balance. He mentioned something about two bumps on one side and one on the other, and you line it up so that the single bump is between the two. This sounds a bit fishy to me and I most definitely did not see these so called "bumps" on my drive shaft. Has anyone else heard of this before?

there are usually two white paint dots that show you where it should be lined up.
