    Derlin shifter bushings only

So kind of a weird question as who in their right mind would do this....

If instead of entirely rebuilding ones shifter, one simply got some of the derlin shifter bushings from AKG and only replaced those in a car with 150k + miles, how much improvement would you expect? What I guess I am really asking is for people who rebuilt first, using many of the components from pelicans kit, how much more improvement occured after adding the new bushings, or replacing with bearings.

I'm planning on rebuilding mine soon, including some parts from AKG.

if you've got enough apart to replace the bushings, why not just rebuild the whole thing?

Oh, I'm in total agreement, but from what I have read there is substantially less slop with the derlin bushings. I'm wondering how much improvement is to be had from replacing the rest of the components.

it all adds up. if your linkage is worn and sloppy, replacing the bushings with delrin will help, but it will still be sloppy.

The main cause for slop that people don't seem to replace too often is the selector rod joint.

are you talking about the tubular hollow rubber bushing that mates the selector rod to the selector arm if the trans?

i just rebuilt my shifter including the selector rod. Thats the piece you really need to go after. Its easy to replace once you have the trans hanging down and it will tighten up the shifter quite a bit. Parts are cheap, satisfaction is priceless

this, selector rod support does a lot.

i read about filling in the area around the opening with silicone to help it stiffen up, i did this with one, haven't installed it yet though, waiting till i drop my driveline to replace things like this.

im not quite sure what you mean about "filling in the area around the opening with silicone." I used zero silicone on my shifter, just new parts. What area are you referring too?

I have the AKG DSSR and imho it made the most difference in "slop".
