    E30 Driveshaft U-Joint help please...

    Hi there E30ers...

I've seen about fifty million threads about E30 driveshaft issues, but I'm afraid I'm just gonna have to start another...

I just pulled the front half of the driveshaft on my 91' 325i, only to find that the U-Joint is wrecked, and has a bunch of play in it. I know that E30 Driveshafts are non-serviceable/rebuildable but I've heard of having driveshaft shops press fitting new, rebuildable U-Joints onto the old driveshaft.

Would it be better to take it to a driveshaft shop or to just buy a used one or get one from pick n pull?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

If you plan on keeping the car, get the rebuilt shaft for piece of mind. If you will probably sell the car then get a good used shaft. Either way, it's not a bad DIY job.

A used drive shaft may be no better than what you have nor or may have a u-joint problem soon after installation. Or you could "win the lottery" and happen to get a good one. The sure win is to get a new part (pretty pricey) or get a rebuilt for some place like Drive Line Services.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
